The book covers art, science, history, culture, geography, and of course, cartography. We specifically chose maps that are visually appealing but also have a good story behind them. There’s a map for everyone in there, even for those who don’t yet know they love maps!
All prints can be mounted on a panel or purchased in a black, white, or walnut frame at extra cost. Until December 13, you can get a customized set of four map coasters for $65. If you miss the deadline, you can print out a card with a photo of the coasters, then put that under the tree. I think the best thing about these coasters is that they actually include a scale bar! Another option from UncommonGoods is a neat set of wooden coasters with a map of neighborhoods from select U.S. cities, including Minneapolis and Portland, Oregon.

They’re unlike any other atlases on the shelves, and they belong on yours. Even the map lover on your list who has everything probably doesn’t have one of these stylish city neckties. If you’re a fan of buying American, all of Josh Bach’s ties are designed and sewn in New York City.
Order soon, as these are hand-made in Turkey and require a couple weeks for production and shipping. Coasters make great gifts to start, but when they feature maps, they’re sure to be a hit. Uncommon Goods sells coasters that can be personalized to display any neighborhood based on a given address. It’s a thoughtful gift for anyone who is fond of maps, especially if that person is a new homeowner or a recent transplant. The set of four coasters can be placed together to view the larger map and for an additional $10, the gift can be shipped with a coaster stand for easy storage.

I would like to get a silk sleep mask and some wall art. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I also own this world map journal. It’s the perfect size to put in my backpack or tote when I’m traveling. I love to be able to jot down notes when I’m on the go, so I have something to refer back to later for my blog posts. The above listings are based only on either Seller's listing information or Etsy marketplace data.
They’re etched with contour maps of some of the most beautiful and iconic mountains on the planet, including Denali, the Matterhorn, Everest, and Pikes Peak. Or, you can choose a custom location—anywhere with some relief will look great on glass. Design offer something a little more local and personalized. Their covers feature different maps depicting cities, countries, regions, rivers, the world—you name it. There are lots of ready-made options, or you can customize the notebook with a map of a specific place or the recipient’s name.
Okay, so a glass globe decanter isn’t technically a map, but it makes a wonderful addition to any map-lover’s study or office. We all need something to pour fine whiskey from as we wax at length about our latest adventure. World maps are generally presented as curving ovals or globes, but Buckminster Fuller’s Dymaxion projection throws all that out the window. The legendary architect and designer envisioned the world in an interconnected string of sharp triangles, colored in reds and grays based on temperature. The maps come in a bunch of different shapes and styles that range from $89 for 5 x 7 inches to $1,234 for 18 x 30 inches. USGS topo maps combined with shaded relief give a nice depth to this map of Haleakalā National Park.

I am one of those travelers who can’t get enough of maps and globes. I’m in the process of decorating my home with a world map theme, and I’ve found some really cool things I wanted to share. A big thanks to Uncommon Goods for sponsoring this map gift guide. They are a super cool company with unique products, many of which are made by hand from talented artists here in the US. About 1/3 of their creative products are from recycled goods…you know I love a good upcycle!

You can also call out specific places on your map with symbols, such as a heart to represent where a couple met. Sure, this is a shameless plug for our own book, but we really did write it with map lovers in mind, so we think it would make a great gift. It has 80 stories about a huge variety of maps, mapmakers, and mappy ideas from across time and space .
